Industry: Healthcare
Objective: A major renovation to Mercy Hospital in Fairfield Ohio nearly doubled the size of the existing structure. Home to Mercy's Heart Hospital - literally a hospital within a hospital - the new facility is at the forefront of heart care. While providing the highest levels of technology and treatments, Mercy Fairfield wanted to create a welcoming, warm and comforting environment for its patients. The furniture choices were a critical component in crafting a friendly, non-sterile environment.
Project and Products: The project included a 250,000-square foot, five story renovation and new construction. A circular layout with patient rooms on the perimeter and nurses stations and offices in the center created a functional and interesting architectural component.
OstermanCron was involved a full year prior to completion and worked closely with Champlin/Haupt and Mercy Health Partners to select the furniture and finishes. OstermanCron provided furniture solutions in the following areas:
- Doctor offices - Footprint systems from Kimball
- Nurses stations - Xsite from Kimball
- Main lobby - Carolina loveseats, Bernhardt seating, AGI benches and Krug end tables
- Patient rooms - chairs by Nemshoff and Patrician
- Chapel - Sauder chapel chairs
- Gift shop
- Waiting areas - Nemshoff and Softcare chairs
- Registration
Why the furniture worked: The wide range of furniture options represented by OstermanCron allowed Mercy to achieve the holistic, warm and inviting environment to calm and comfort their patients and families. The team chose durable fabrics and vinyls that would withstand heavy usage without sacrificing on aesthetics.
Why OstermanCron? Expertise and service. The facility planning team at Mercy Health Partners continues to turn to OstermanCron for their extensive experience in healthcare facilities and consultive approach to furniture selection. Throughout the one-year project, OstermanCron worked as part of the team with Champlin/Haupt, recommending solutions and finishes, negotiating with manufacturers on behalf of Mercy, and supplying furniture for testing and usability by staff and patients.
Installation and Moving: OstermanCron partnered with Wessels Workplace Services for the move and installation services.
